Last week, Last week, the researchers of the UNISG – Università degli Studi di Scienze Gastronomiche in collaboration with CEEBA – Confederation of Egyptian European Business Associations conducted a field study in Al Sharqiya, Egypt, interviewing 36 smallholders. The interviews explored their experiences, knowledge, and challenges in cereal farming. By understanding this, we aim to identify key factors that influence their productivity, particularly during periods of shock. This is crucial for the STAPLES objectives. It provides insights into the needs and obstacles faced by smallholders, facilitating the development of targeted interventions. Based on the findings, solutions such as improved agricultural practices, access to technology, and better market integration can be proposed. Furthermore, by sharing successful strategies and innovations, smallholders can enhance their resilience and profitability, ultimately contributing to sustainable agricultural development and food security in their communities.
