Dina Moawad’s, within the University of Gastronomic Sciences – Pollenzo, partner of STAPLES project, in her article, “𝘍𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘚𝘦𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘨𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘪𝘥𝘴𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘌𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘰𝘮𝘪𝘤 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘊𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘦 𝘊𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘴,” explores 𝐮𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 in light of economic instability and projected geopolitical tensions in 2024-2025. With climate change further straining food supply chains, the world faces the risk of 600 million people suffering from chronic malnutrition by 2030, with 238 million experiencing acute food insecurity.
Moreover, it highlights STAPLES project as a crucial initiative addressing food security challenges, in MENA countries, particularly Egypt and Morocco. By fostering 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬, the project takes a 𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡 to building resilience in food systems.
